Meet the Editor

I love editing more than writing.
My training as an editor began in graduate school, where I worked as an assistant editor on three journals for a semester. Later, I taught writing and literature to university students. The skills I’d acquired as a grad student and instructor—self-editing and coaching writers—inspired me to start a freelance editing business. When I’m not editing, I’m honing my skills or writing stories and articles. But I love editing best of all!
I’m a versatile editor
Last September, I copyedited a high school social studies unit on Climate Change. In October, I line edited a young adult novel. During the winter, I wrote a couple of manuscript critiques for young adult fantasy writers. In February, I provided substantive editing for a Chinese-speaking writer who used AI to write his novella. I tailor every editing job to the specific needs of the writer. I Help Writers at Every Step of the Way
What type of editing are you looking for? Many writers hire me for a developmental edit or a manuscript assessment. It’s a good place to start, even if you’ve received feedback from others along the way. Some writers come to me with a revised manuscript that’s ready for copyediting or line editing. (You can learn more about my services here.) I’ve even had a few writers who needed coaching for writing fundamentals and grammar.
Don’t worry if you’re not entirely sure what level of editing you need. We’ll work out the details together.
I won’t erase a writer's unique voice
As your editor, I’ll read your manuscript word by word, sentence by sentence, shining a light on the areas that work well and suggesting ways to polish and perfect the rest. I have found that this approach helps writers gain confidence and develop their authentic voices. I’m very good at catching subtle grammar errors, too. Many writers hire me as their developmental editor and then return for copy editing or line editing.
Free Sample Edit
I always begin with a free sample edit and estimate to help us determine the most suitable type of editing for your needs and budget. When you send me your excerpt for a free sample edit, I’ll set up a time to discuss your editing preferences, and I’ll answer any questions you have. Together, we’ll find the right level of editing for you at a price you can afford.

A Brief & Bookish Bio
I grew up in Seattle, surrounded by books and fortunate to have parents who read to us and took us to the library. I minored in both psychology and creative writing and received a B.A. in English from Western Washington University. Later, I earned my master’s degree at the University of Idaho and my doctorate at Washington State University. As a graduate student, I taught Freshman English and Research Writing. After earning my doctorate, I also taught literature, humanities, and business writing.
After working as an English instructor for ten years, I opened my freelance editing service in 2006. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of clients produce their very best work. You can find testimonials here.
