Meet the Editor

Meet the Editor

I love editing even more than writing.

I love hearing and reading other people’s stories and helping make them even better. Every manuscript that comes my way contains memorable insights, valuable information, or unforgettable scenes and characters. Every writer has a unique story to tell. As your editor, I will show you how to elevate the quality of your writing and work with you to achieve your desired goals.

My job as editor is to read your manuscript carefully and to focus on its strengths while suggesting ways to improve the less effective parts. This approach helps writers hone their skills and gain self-confidence. I'm very good at catching subtle grammar errors, too!

I’m a versatile editor.

Last September, I copyedited a high school social studies unit on Climate Change. In October, I line edited a young adult novel.  That job was followed by a substantive editing job for a memoirist, who needed help with focus, structure, and development. During the winter, I wrote a couple of manuscript critiques for young adult fantasy writers.  I also provided substantive editing for a Chinese-speaking writer who used AI to write his novella.

Even if you’re not entirely sure what sort of help you need at the beginning, we’ll work out the details as we go. I always begin with a free sample edit and estimate to help us decide what level of editing best suits your needs and budget. When you send me your one-thousand-word excerpt for a free sample edit, please tell me your editing preferences.

A Brief  & Bookish Bio

I grew up in Seattle, surrounded by books and fortunate to have parents who read to us kids. (There were four of us.) My childhood was spent reading through one genre after another. I read books about dogs, cats, and horses; fairy tales and fantasy; mysteries; classical literature; coming-of-age stories; biographies; and literary fiction.

I earned three degrees in English and went on to teach writing and literature courses to college students. When I returned to Seattle to help care for aging parents, I opened my freelance editing service. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of clients produce their very best work. Many of them have published their books.
